The 'Lost' Generation of fans

Jul. 26th, 2006

It is generally accepted that the costs of taking children to Elland Road is now so prohibitive that there is a grave danger of a whole generation of supporters being lost to the club. Following various requests from our members and the wider fan body the LUFC Trust Directors have decided to initiate a campaign to examine best practice in attracting young fans to sporting events in this country.

At their AGM in June members asked that this be looked into and following a Directors meeting on Wednesday 19th July it was agreed that the following steps would be initiated:

  • Meet with other Leeds United fans organisations to determine what level of support would be available from them and if they would be interested in joining in the campaign.
  • Meet with members of the local media to put to them the proposal for the campaign and ascertain the level of support that could be expected from them as they would be key to its success.
  • Establish through research of the best practice of providing cost effective sporting entertainment for youngsters in this country. In parallel, and via the local media, establish what the parents of children wishing to go to Elland Road would be prepared to accept to pay.
  • Establish a final short list of the best initiatives from above and again utilising the outlet of the media and utilising research surveys calculate the cost benefit that may arise for the club.
  • Prepare a brief summary report for the clubs attention and (hopefully) in preparation for some future discussion with them.

The above will take some time to complete but for it to be available to influence the pricing structure for the 2007-2008 season ticket pricing, the initiative should get under way immediately.
