Lost Generation Update

Oct. 26th, 2006

Following the completion of the recent survey on kid’s ticket prices at Elland Road and the subsequent conclusions including comparative analysis with other clubs in the CCC the results were sent to the club as well as being published on the L.U.S.T. website

Directors of L.U.S.T. were invited by the club to discuss the survey and the conclusions in order to establish any common ground between the clubs requirements and our surveys findings and subsequently attended a meeting with the Chairman Mr. Bates, the CEO Mr Harvey and senior ticketing staff.

Unfortunately the club, who took the survey and results seriously - having studied its criteria and findings in some detail, were unable to offer L.U.S.T. a promise that any of the recommendations they had made in their conclusions would be implemented for the forthcoming season.

The club had little comment on the apparent disparity on children’s season ticket prices but were more interested in the findings regarding match day ticket prices where they were keen to point out that £10 in the family area represented good value - it being an average figure charged for under 16’s in the Championship for the higher rated category games of which the club agreed they had a high % of. L.U.S.T. considered this somewhat disingenuous as most parents, particularly those with children aged 12 or under, would wish to accompany their child and that the price comparison in that scenario was not as good value in comparison. The response to this was that children need not be accompanied by an adult to attend matches in the Family Area at Elland Road.

The clubs reason for being unable to consider implementing a pricing structure for children other than under 16 and also resurrecting the 2 Adult 2 Children Family Packages that were popular during the period in the Premiership was that both initiatives would be subject to ticket abuse by supporters as well as additional ticket administrative problems. L.U.S.T. considered it unfair to penalise the majority for the actions of the minority.

Subsequent to the meeting L.U.S.T. directors have prepared and issued to the club further data with regard to children’s ticket pricing initiatives for their consideration in an effort keep open dialogue with the club.

We have a stadium which can hold approx 40,000 people. Why have the current ticket price structure when you could lower the price of tickets for adults and children and possibly fill the ground? People are feeling the pinch financially and are voting with their feet.
