Park and Ride Scheme at Elland Road
Sep. 15th, 2005
LUFC Trust has set itself up to be 'critical friend' to the club and has now approached them with a number of ideas. Our latest initiative regarding a Park and Ride scheme has come about after a chance posting on Waccoe when I asked for ideas. I have now sent the following letter to the club about this subject and am looking forward to what they have to say about it.

Dear Mr Bates
Reference Car Park and Ride Scheme at Elland Road
In response to your various public requests for any ideas that may increase revenue for the club, one of our members suggested that the club consider developing a Park and Ride scheme at Elland Road utilising those match day car parks for which you continue to have control. We are aware that the large expanse of car parking to the west of the ground is owned and operated by Leeds City Council however the areas immediately behind the West and North stands may still provide sufficient interest to an experienced Park and Ride Operator particularly given that they are in existing secure areas.
As you are no doubt aware the cost of all day car parking in central Leeds is now extremely expensive and the unique geographic position of the football ground a short distance inside the ring road and adjacent to the south west motorway approaches to the city should provide an attractive alternative for potential customers.
We have undertaken some internet-based research into the provision of Park and Ride in other parts of the country and based on that are of the opinion that planning permission may well be looked upon favourably as the usual problems associated with these schemes is that they involve infringement of green belt areas. However this would not be the case at Elland Road as the car parks being considered already exist.
Obviously some provision would have to be made to cater for those days when football matches are to be played but we would have imagined that with careful planning this should not be insurmountable.
We will continue to poll our members who have the interests of their club at heart and if they propose other ideas that we consider of interest than we will forward them to you.
We look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely
Michael McGowan
